Oma's Weekend Visit (September 12-15, 2008)

I haven't written anything in a couple of days. We've been too busy. I took Friday off to run errands, go to the doctor and pick my mom up from the bus stop. I managed to get everything done - including the picking up of missing aquarium supplies to get the second tank going before the pond fish have to come indoors for the winter. I'll be setting that up next week.

The weekend went very well. On Saturday we went and did our usual shopping at the organic farmer's market and other grocery stops. My mom came along and the three of us (Oma, Theo and me - Oma means grandma in German) had a very nice time! After that Jamie joined us and we went to the Hintenburg Harvest Festival, just by the Parkdale Farmer's Market where Theo, Oma and I got to ride on the horsedrawn wagon and later Theo got to dance to the live music, have a hot dog, have pop corn and then play on the playground! He had a great time! Nap was late on Saturday as was bedtime later on. But that's ok. It's the weekend. We were all able to sleep in today! It was nice.

My mom - otherwise known as Oma! :)

I almost forgot - I made dinner for all of us that day, incl. my brother and Grandma Cathleen (Jamie's mom) that night. I made traditional German Rouladen with chanterelles (Pfifferlinge) in the sauce! It turned out great if I may say so myself! :) Even Theo had quite a bit last night!

Today my mom went to my brother's place and Theo and I went book shopping. Let's just say that Theo got a Thomas the Tank Engine and I got one of the books I had been looking for. I used the discount I had for his toy instead. He just loves his Thomas and the track that came with it!

Later on we went to the Children's Museum at the Museum of Civilizations. Theo had a blast!

Driving Daddy in a motorized rickshaw! Theo is a really good driver! :)

Theo playing with a wooden forklift at the museum - great fun!

Theo on a camel.

Theo mopping the deck of the boat at the museum! Interesting skill! Hopefully he'll apply this at home when he's bigger - then again, he really does love to clean up and keep things in order and lined up.

When we came out it was raining really hard so Jamie (my lovely, lovely husband) ran to the car and picked Theo and me up at the door so we wouldn't get wet!

Overall we had a great afternoon!

Tonight I managed to get Theo into bed at 8 pm!!! Woooohoooo! Over the summer he's been going to bed pretty late - around 9 pm or later sometimes! That's not optimal as not much of the evening is left after Theo is asleep. Now that it's getting dark later we're able to get Theo into bed a bit earlier. Hopefully we can keep going this way!

And finally - I've figured out a way to negotiate the murky waters of getting Theo to cooperate with things. Things that I or Jamie want him to do, but that are not part of the plan according to Theo. Yeah, you are quite strong willed at the dainty age of 2 my son! Basically today we managed to get to bed without every toy in sight coming along (espcially Thomas) by making sure that Thomas was parked in his favourite spot at the trainyard, and everyone else was also in bed (all his figurines). It had to be logical and they had to be waiting for you in the morning Theo! I thought this was very interesting, logical - and linear. Theo wanted to make sure everyone was happy and then he was ready to head to bed and read a couple of books before falling asleep. Which he did within about 2 minutes of finishing his stories!!!

Oh yeah, and there is one thing that you (Theo) do right now that is really cute. You simply can't say the word tomato yet. Every time that you try to say tomato it comes out as potato. That won't last and you'll learn how to say it correctly very soon - you are very good at learning new words - but I thought I would write this down. :)
