I was going to take the day off to be there for his bus drop off and pick up, but the fates conspired against me. I had a full day meeting on one of my health files and then had to head to Montreal by 4 pm for another meeting that would keep me out of town until Friday. And I had to be there for both - it was CA related and was unfortunately unavoidable. I hated that!
But I did manage to escape my Ottawa meeting at lunch time to drop Theo off at his bus with Jamie! It was really fun to meet the driver and put Theo on the bus! Theo was really impatient for the bus to come. Once it arrived he got on and gave us a huge grin and then got into his seat at the front of the bus. He was so excited about it all that he didn't even wave to us when the bus took off! Jamie and I tried to follow the bus and see him get off at the school, but we couldn't get to our car and then to the school fast enough (we had parked the car at Cheryl's and had to walk back to her place from the bus stop before following). By the time we got there he was already inside the school.
Jamie went to pick Theo up from the bus that day. He told me that Theo had a blast! When I talked to Theo later on that day he told me about all the fun things he had done with his new teacher (Ms. Rae) and about all the kids he'd met (but he couldn't remember any names yet)! Theo had an absolutely great first day at Junior Kindergarten!
On a personal note; it is so strange for me to see Theo go off on a bus by himself. He is getting more independent by the day...which is as it should be! But still...he doesn't need me as much anymore!
Sadly I was not able to be a stay at home mom with Theo. Which is fine, but I think it makes a little bit of a difference in terms of how a parent feels when the little guy (in our case) goes off to school. I don't have that empty house feeling or the need to now find something else to do with my time while Theo is off at Kindergarten.
But I was so worried that some of the other kids might not be nice to him. Theo is such a good and kind little boy. I didn't want him to get his feelings hurt by others so early on in life. I didn't want him to be scared to be off on his own. I worried - needlessly, I know, but I did. And that first day on the bus he was completely on his own. There wasn't even another kid to get on the bus with at the bus stop that day (the other boy was starting on the following day). But I really didn't have to worry. It was so exciting for Theo to get to have this new experience! He absolutely LOVED being a big boy who gets to take the school bus and go to school! It really is a new and exciting chapter in his life!
Theo is such a big boy already and handled is first day (or two) really well! We are super proud of him!!!!
So here are some pics from his first and second day!

Cheryl was there also and was the one to take the picture!

Happy Theo (with his friend Lily in the background)!
